16 Apr Fashion trade shows in Spain: 6 of the largest fashion fairs
Spain’s fashion industry is rich with household names that have risen to fame around the globe: Zara, Pull & Bear, Mango, Desigual, Loewe, Stradivarius, Bimba y Lola, Adolfo Dominguez, Massimo Dutti… the list of high street fashion brands and icons originating from the country goes on and on. Already worth an astounding $6.768bn (USD) in 2017, the country’s fashion industry as a whole is expected to rise to $11.659bn (USD) by 2022 (see Statista’s chart below). There are numerous fashion trade shows in Spain, of which the largest and most iconic engulf the cities where they are hosted. The most recognised designers and buyers from around the globe pour into Spain every year to showcase their collections and discover the latest trends in the industry. Read on for more a short review of some of the key fashion trade shows in Spain.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
Arguably the largest event to showcase Spanish fashion internationally, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week takes over Madrid twice a year and attracts the country’s most prominent figures in the industry as well as on the international scene. Hosted in Madrid’s IFEMA venue every year, the event was originally known as the Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week before partnering with German brand Mercedes-Benz in an ambitious move to join the likes of New York’s and Berlin’s Fashion Week, both also backed by the German automobile giant. The next event will take place from 5th until 8th July 2018. View a sample of the last event in this making of video:
MoMad Metrópolis is another fashion trade show in Spain held at Madrid’s IFEMA centre. The biannual event is usually held in February and September, with the next event confirmed for 7th, 8th and 9th September 2018. Around 110,000 visitors are expected to visit the trade show, including around 1,000 international brand exhibitors and over 21,000 specialist buyers from 70 countries. Four exhibition halls are provided to showcase the latest designs and trends in women’s and men’s clothing, shoes, bags and leather goods, jewellery and accessories.
Seville’s Salón Internacional de la Moda Flamenca (SIMOF) is a reference in the world of flamenco and a leading trade show in Spain for the fashion industry. Organised by Doble Erre and FIBES Conference and Exhibition Centre, the flamenco fashion trade show boasts over 7,000m2 of exhibition space and multiple runways to showcase the new collections of the flamenco world’s leading designers and brands. SIMOF is also a very popular yearly event in Seville. Watch the video below for a short preview on SIMOF:
2018 marks the 50th year of Spain’s Feria Internacional de la Moda Infantil (FIMI), the country’s leading trade show for children’s fashion, footwear, and accessories. Organised by Feria Valencia, the trade show counts three yearly events to showcase the latest designs and trends in the children fashion industry. FIMI’s Fall/Winter edition took place from 19th until 21st January of this year. The next events are FIMI’s Día Mágico from 4th until 6th May 2018 and its Spring/Winter event to be held at the Pabellón de Cristal Casa de Campo in Madrid from 22nd until 24th June 2018.
The city of Elche in Alicante has secured a footing in Spain’s circuit of fashion trade shows thanks to Futurmoda, the International Fair for Leather, Components and Machinery for Footwear and Leathergoods. Already in its 40th edition, the trade fair returns to Elche on 17th and 18th October 2018. 300 exhibitors, occupying over 12,000m2 of exhibition space, are able to showcase their designs to around 6,000 visitors each year.
We round off this post with one of FIBES’s very own annual trade shows: Expobelleza Andalucía. One of the most prominent trade shows in Spain for the world of Beauty, Health and Wellbeing, Expobelleza took Seville by storm during its last edition in February 2018 with over 24,000 visitors. Counting over 7,200m2 of exhibition space and multiple runways, the event delighted visitors with a number of workshops, showcases, and open discussion panels.
